Episode 03: Childress Vineyards Classic Red Table Wine

North Carolina Wine TV Review:
The Childress Vineyards Classic Red Table Wine was a solid effort for an entry level bottle of wine. the wine was smooth and full of red fruit strawberry and cherry and finished smooth. The finish was quiet short and the fruit was slightly artificial. Overall this is a fair value for $9 and would make a good wine for a backyard cookout or tailgate.

Rating: ★★★☆☆

About Childress Classic Red Table Wine (from the winery)
This is an easy, smooth, uncomplicated red blend with full cherry flavor and a clean finish. The wine is aged briefly in oak for complexity so as to retain the natural ripe, sweet aromas of the grape. It is an easy yet rich wine that marries well with roasted meats and light sauces.

  1. Childress was named a top 25 tasting room by Wine Enthusiast magazine…..just thought people might be interested to know that!

Christian: Thanks for sharing that bit of info with our viewers. Here’s a link to the item on the Childress site: http://www.childressvineyards.com/news/newsArticle.asp?pvNewsId=72

I’m a big fan of Childress wines. I’ve tried them all, and I have to say the the Childress Classic Red Table wine is pretty good, but almost any of their other wines are AMAZING. I do find it interesting that you chose the least expensive bottle of wine, but I would highly recommend Trio, their white blend, or the 2006 Barrel Select Cabernet Franc, which was awarded the Winegrower’s Cup and Best of Show @ the North Carolina State Fair Wine Competition.

One thing I like about NC wine is the real home grown passion of a lot of the wine makers. Childress is NOT that. The upfront $$$ put into this place is obscene.

That said, it is a nice tour, and they have many options with their wine tastings…a stroll through the vineyard is gorgeous as well. Ignore the road noise from the hwy which is just steps from the grapes.

I understand they let smaller vineyards come and process/make/bottle their wines there, so that’s cool too. Helpin’ out the other guys. Glad to see there’s comradeship there.
