Episode 09: Dennis Vineyards Spring

North Carolina Wine TV Review:
If you are looking for sweet muscadine wine with good balance then pour yourself a glass of Dennis Vineyards Spring. This blend of red and white muscadine grapes will be too sweet for some, but for those that enjoy the sugar levels they will find good overall balance. The nose is quiet pleasant smelling like sweet wild flowers and a little honey. The overall body and mouth-feel of this wine shows that muscadine wine show that good wine making can be done across all types of grapes. Though its name is spring this is an ideal summer wine for those looking for something to sip in the sun, though a little too sweet for our personal tastes.

Price: $10

Availability: Directly from the winery and some Central and Eastern North Carolina wine shops.

Rating: ★★★½☆

according to the North Carolina Wine Ratings Scale

About Dennis Vineyards Spring (from the winery):

About Dennis Vineyards (from the winery):
Just like all good things, Dennis Vineyards had a beginning. It started with two men that had a never ending love for wine. Pritchard Dennis and son, Sandon Dennis, the founders and master wine makers of Dennis Vineyards, experimented in hobby wine making years before taking the giant step toward professionalism in 1996.

The dream of being prestigious wine makers was birthed into their minds in the 1990’s. After five years of personal research and extensive study, the Dennis’ were ready to begin working toward their dream. After several early hobby batches, they planted about two hundred vines of the mucadine variety (Carlos, Noble, and Ison). This was intended to feed their need for hobby wine grapes. While planting these vines, the decision was made to start a small winery. Within the next year and a half, all the permits were in hand despite the fact of being located in a dry county. In the fall of 1997, Dennis Vineyards started picking their first official wine making grapes. In the Spring of 1998, their first vintage (1997) became available to the public and began to gain popularity with wine drinkers from around the state. The favorite of most people was the very distinct Carlos white wine.

I like the 5 bottle rating. However, I can see lots of wine getting ‘bunched’ up in the 2.5 to 4.5 range.

Have you thought, maybe, of a 10 point scale…maybe make the ‘icon’ grapes or corks or heck just stars like you’ve started doing in the right side bar.

Whatever you do, I’m really likin’ the show. Keep up the fun and good work!!

RaleighWineLady – Thanks for your feedback about the ratings system. We are working to make it better, though I encourage you to read the bottle score write ups on the ratings page as those are better descriptions of the wines then the actual bottle number.

Ben – We will have an iTunes feed very soon!
