North Carolina Wine TV Review:
The 2007 Raffaldini Montepulciano is a special wine. Up to this point it is the best North Carolina red wine we have tried. This wine is balanced and complex. The nose dances with cherry, tea, and oak. In the mouth perfectly soft and rounded tannins steal the show and deliver great body and finish. In the mouth it bursts with flavors of red fruit, coca powder, oak, and black tea. At $17 this wine is a must try and drinks like a wine twice the price.

Rating: ★★★★½

according to the North Carolina Wine Ratings Scale

Price: $17

Availability: Only Available through the Rafaldini Wine Club

About Raffaldini Vineyards (from the winery)
The Raffaldini family motto, “Audentes Fortuna Iuvat” means, “Fortune favors he who dares.” This Latin phrase originates from the Aeneid, Virgil’s most famous work. Born in 70 BC during the reign of Julius Caesar, Virgil is best known as the author of this epic poem that links the birth of Rome to the Trojan War. The fusion of family, food and wine is an integral part of our daily life. For more than six hundred and fifty years, the Raffaldini family has witnessed many historic events and has often marked such occasions with special family dinners and homemade Italian wine.

    Nice effort.

I’ve been out to Raff…but back in ‘06. What a wonderful view and grounds. Can’t really remember what I liked best from back then…did buy a bottle

Too bad this wine is so ‘hard to get’…probably won’t join club just to taste it…# cases made?

Gettin’ that hat, might nudge me back there…:)

  4. Kipp Bodnar says:

    raleighwinelady,

I think the production is at about 70 cases, so not much.

That being said, it is impressive worth considering the club, for sure.

  5. Dale says:

My wife and I just visited Raffaldini this weekend. Had a marvelous Sangiovese Reserva with a picnic on the patio. Excellent view and atmosphere.

You guys are doing a great job, very good idea for a web-series.

Thanks for the comments. We enjoyed our visit to Raffaldini as well. See our photos on our Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/NorthCarolinaWineTV#/album.php?aid=279803&id=184788555857 and become a fan while you are there. We tasted the Sangiovese as well. Look for it in an upcoming review.

  7. Kipp and Jeff,

Neat show…we are big fans of all the Yadkin Valley wineries. The 2007 Montepulcino is a fantastic wine and only gets better with age…we have had several bottles aging in our cellar back here in Ohio. Keep up the good work in getting more folk interested in the NC Wines.

  9. Kipp Bodnar says:

    Dave,

Thanks so much for your comment! I can only imagine that it gets much better with age. It is still one of the best North Carolina wines we have had, a special bottle.
