Epsiode 13: Silk Hope Winery 2004 Red Roots

North Carolina Wine TV Review:
A quick read of the label of this North Carolina wine showed that this wine was an interesting blend. However, upon opening and taking a quick look at the cork it was easy to see that this vintage is past its prime. On the nose it was overly oaked with hints of green peppers and vegetables, with a little coffee. Overall the wine was lacking in flavor due to too much age and lacked the fruit and complexity of a good red wine. The wine was also slightly bitter on the finish. Not bad, but would recommend trying a more recent vintage.

Price: $12.50

Availability: Directly from the winery and at Southern Season in Chapel Hill, North Carolina

Rating: ★★½☆☆

About Silk Hope 2004 Red Roots (from the winery)
This blend of Chambourcin, Cabernet Franc, and Touriga grapes produces a complex flavor structure that is both smoky and spicy. Pairs well with venison.

    Kip & Jeff,

I am continuing to enjoy your videos. You asked for input about Touriga and Chambourcin grapes. Touriga (too-REE-guh)is a family of red grapes from Portugal that includes Touriga Nacional and Touriga Francesca used most often in Port. Chamboucin (SHAM-boor-sin)is a red French-American hybrid that is widely planted in the Southeast because of its resistance to disease, and the good quality red wine that it can produce in our climate. Our staff is looking forward to your visit on August 22nd. Thanks for your continued interest in and support of the North Carolina Wine Industry.

Hey this is my first time watching your show and I work at SilkHope Winery. I was just wonder if you have been out to SilkHope since then like you said you were going to do on your show. If you have, just wondering what you thought of the other wines.
