Episode 32: Raffaldini Vineyards 2008 Vermentino

North Carolina Wine TV Review:
Raffaldini’s 2008 Vermentino got a lot of attention before it was even released because it was give by US president Obama to the Italian president. We have reviewed several wines from Raffaldini up to this point, but the Vermentino is easily their best. The nose of this rich white wine dances with minerals, exotic fruit and shows a vast range of complexity. The complexity only deepens in the mouth where flavors of lemon, custard, and minerals dance in the full bodied profile of the wine. This wine is a must try and an amazing value at $16.

Rating: ★★★★★

according to the North Carolina Wine Ratings Scale

Price: $16

About Raffaldini Vineyards 2008 Vermentino (from the winery)
An elegant white wine varietal native to the island of Sardinia and south coastal Italy. A clean, mineral nose reveals layers of honey, citrus and tropical fruits, while the palate continues with honey, peppered citrus and pear. A refreshing acidity enhances flavors of green apple and lime and lingers, readying the palate for the next sip. Winner: Bronze Medal, San Francisco International Wine Competition and the wine selected by the White House to be used as a presidential gift.

About Raffaldini Vineyards (from the winery)
The Raffaldini family motto, “Audentes Fortuna Iuvat” means, “Fortune favors he who dares.” This Latin phrase originates from the Aeneid, Virgil’s most famous work. Born in 70 BC during the reign of Julius Caesar, Virgil is best known as the author of this epic poem that links the birth of Rome to the Trojan War. The fusion of family, food and wine is an integral part of our daily life. For more than six hundred and fifty years, the Raffaldini family has witnessed many historic events and has often marked such occasions with special family dinners and homemade Italian wine.
