North Carolina Wine TV Review:
The Iron Gate Pack House Red is a light-colored blend of three red varietals: Sangiovese, Merlot and Chambourcin. The nose of this non-vintage wine has a strong leather component and is much bigger than one would expect from the color. It also has slight cherry and dirt in the nose. The most notable thing about this wine is an overpowering candied red cinnamon apple ring flavor right before you drink it. We called this a pre-front pallette flavor because it is gone instantly. The mid-palette is filled with leather and a woodsy cinnamon flavor. This is a well-made, and well balanced wine with a variety of flavor layers, but suffers from a lack of fruit. Since is does not have a vintage, we speculated that it could have spent too much time on shelf and has moved passed its optimal flavor profile.
