Episode 89: Old North State Restless Soul

North Carolina Wine TV Review:
The Restless Soul red wine from Old North State Winery is a great example of an easy drinking, well priced, North Carolina red wine. The nose of this wine is complex with red fruit, earth and spice flavors. In the mouth this wine is almost too smooth and could use a little more tannins for our taste. This is a solid wine for the money and would be great to take to parties.

Rating: ★★★☆☆

according to the North Carolina Wine Ratings Scale

Price: $10

Availability: From the winery and in stores across NC

About Old North State Winery:
Old North State Winery started as a cooperative in 2002 and has since evolved into a winery owned by two families with one vision. Our vineyards were established on farms that have been in our families for generations. We hope you enjoy the culmination of our dreams, our devotion to our farmland, and our passion for our wines produced at Old North State Winery.

Most of our wines start out as luscious wine grapes grown on Yadkin Valley North Carolina family farms. We are the Old North State Winery, Inc. located in Mount Airy, in the headwaters of the Yadkin Valley AVA. Wine, beer and fine foods are our passion and our legacy.

What a coincidence. I just picked up a couple of bottles of this to take to my sister in Chicago. I wanted to bring along some local wine. Naturally, I had to try a bottle myself to make sure I wasn’t giving bad stuff. It was great. It’s really fruity, and opened up after it had some time to breathe. The label is really cool as well.

  3. John,
A coincidence indeed. A good example of North Carolina wine. Let us know what you sister thinks.

Just finished off my last bottle of this which means a road trip to NC :) ….my only question is…how can something be “too smooth”…I almost agree with your rating…great drinking wine (especially for a night of sipping with friends) but really doesn’t stand out due to lack of tannins…I give it 3.5
