Ratings

When you set out to drink every wine made in North Carolina you need a way to rate each one of them. With that in mind we have developed our own rating system that is used to rate every wine we review on North Carolina Wine TV. Each wine has a rating between 1 – 5 Bottles. Please see the description below for a more detailed description of each rating.

Note: The rating scores are given out according to Kipp and Jeff’s personal tastes. You may have a completely different opinion based on your own palate and preferences.

5 Bottles – Simply brilliant! A perfect wine that will change your life. Rush out and buy a case of this wine because you will want to drink it over and over. This wine is the ideal example of what North Carolina wine and wine in general should be.

4-1/2 Bottles – This wine is close to perfect. It is delicious, but lacks the “wow” factor that truly makes it outstanding. This wine is a great value and comes highly recommended. Seek out this wine and try it.

4 Bottles – A wine to be proud of. It shows good complexity and depth. This wine can proudly be recommended as a gift or taken to a dinner party. This wine may not be perfect, but it tastes good and will please a crowd.

3-1/2 Bottles – Solid. A good wine that may be overpriced, but still enjoyable. This wine may lack some of the characteristics of the varietal that would make it a true show stopper, but it is easy to tell that it has some solid wine making behind it.

3 Bottles – Serviceable. It is a solid effort that won’t knock your socks off, but good enough to take to a cookout or drink on a weeknight with a homemade meal.

2-1/2 Bottles – Below average. It is drinkable, but is overpriced and not a fair representation of what the type of grape can and should be. Something is off about the wine making or vintage growing season such as too much oak or lack of balance. Would not recommend purchasing this wine.

2 Bottles – Drinkable, but far from tasty. It may be bitter, artificial or unbalanced.

1-1/2 Bottles – Cooking wine. This wine is not worth drinking, but perfectly acceptable for cooking. It lacks much real flavor and is completely off balanced.

1 Bottle – Pour out on the ground and walk away casually, but quickly, so no one knows you are associated with the foul liquid on the ground. A wine that is so bad, it has no use. It is not worth drinking, or even cooking with, because it either lacks any flavor, or is completely offensive to your palate (or at least to ours).
